Terms of use
Pilcrow is free. Use it on as many of your Macs as you like. It comes with no warranty, which is the trade you are making for that.
Last updated 27 August 2026.
The agreement
These terms are between you and The Alpha Circuit (“we”), and they apply when you download, install, or use Pilcrow. Installing it means you accept them. If you do not, do not install it — that is the whole enforcement mechanism.
Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to install and use Pilcrow on any Mac you own or control, for any purpose including commercial work. You may make copies for backup.
What the licence does not cover:
- Selling Pilcrow, or distributing it as part of something you sell.
- Redistributing modified copies, or copies with our name or marks removed.
- Reverse engineering, except where law expressly gives you that right regardless of what this document says.
We keep ownership of the application, its source, its name, and its icon. You keep ownership of everything you dictate — we never see it, so there is nothing for us to claim.
Price
Pilcrow is free of charge. There is no trial, no subscription, no licence key, and no paid tier. If that changes, existing installs will keep working under these terms.
Requirements and third parties
Pilcrow needs macOS 26 or later and relies on speech recognition provided by the operating system. Your use of macOS is governed by your agreement with Apple, not by this one. If Apple changes or removes that functionality, Pilcrow may stop working, and we cannot undertake to fix that.
No warranty
Pilcrow is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcription will be accurate.
Dictation is a best effort by a speech model. Read what it produces before you rely on it, and do not use it as the sole record of anything that matters.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or lost time, arising out of your use of Pilcrow.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. Where that is so, the exclusions above apply only as far as that jurisdiction permits, and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Updates
We may release new versions. We are not obliged to release any, or to support old ones indefinitely. Nothing is installed on your Mac without your action.
Ending it
Your licence ends if you stop complying with these terms. You can end it at any time by deleting the application — the help page covers removing its preferences as well.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, and the courts of Amsterdam have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. Your mandatory local consumer protections continue to apply wherever you live.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and the version you agreed to is the one in force when you installed. If a change materially reduces your rights, the sensible response is to stop using the app.
